Program Description
Recorded: January 17, 2023 – A slip, trip, or fall at any age can impact a person’s health and wellness, in fact, national statistics show that falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries for older people. Falls can impact your independence and often have an associated financial cost. Slips, trips, and falls are preventable. There are ways to change your surroundings and assistive technology (AT) devices to reduce the possibility of falls. This webinar will cover:
- Common factors that lead to increased fall risk
- The physical and financial impacts of falling
- Fall prevention and available Assistive Technology (AT) to reduce fall risk
Presenter
Leilani Carlson, Maine CITE Assistive Technology Specialist – Leilani joined the state assistive technology program, Maine CITE, in July 2022. For ten years, she provided education, resource information, and direct assistance to agricultural workers with disabilities or chronic illnesses as the Maine AgrAbility Project Coordinator. Before working in disability services, she worked in the environmental engineering and consulting industry for more than 15 years.
