Program Description
Recorded: October 19, 2022 – This seminar is designed to provide an overview of different types of wheelchairs, what they are good for, who might use them, and how to maintain them on a basic level. Perhaps you use a manual wheelchair that was purchased online, is used or borrowed, or you work at an equipment loan program. Perhaps you work in healthcare or case management and want to know more about your clients’ needs. Do you have a power scooter and are in need of an upgrade? This webinar will provide information to lead you to resources and next steps.
- Learn about the different types of wheelchairs, their uses, and their advantages and disadvantages.
- Learn about common and complex wheelchair features and components.
- Learn about the benefits of keeping a wheelchair in safe, working condition and some strategies to do so.
Presenter
Melissa Bliss, MS OTR/L – Melissa is an occupational therapist and assistive technology specialist at Maine CITE, the state assistive technology program in Maine. She has worked in a wide variety of educational and clinical settings as an OT, including home health, nursing homes, early intervention, schools, acute care, rehab, and as a program coordinator for an AT lending library and reuse program in Portland.
