Speech and Communication Tools in AT4Maine – March 18, 2026

Date: March 18, 2026
Time: 1:00 – 2:00pm ET

Program Description

Child's hands holding three pictures. One on left is a figure of a person that says I (me). Middle picture is two hands that says want. The picture on the right is an apple.

Communication is a fundamental right, but some people face barriers to using speech. Some people are non-verbal, and others have health conditions that make speaking difficult.

Join us for a webinar on an overview of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). We will explore how these tools support or replace speech. The tools range from simple picture boards to high-tech applications. We will introduce you to our device lending library, AT4Maine, where you can borrow from nearly 100 speech-related items for free.

We will look at the following:

  • An introduction to communication.
  • Using low-tech tools, such as symbols, and high-tech tools, such as a speech app on an iPad or tablet.
  • Exploring AT4Maine for devices you can borrow to try at home, work or school.
  • Resources that help you learn more about AAC.
