Increase your Brain Awareness in June
June is Alzheimer's Awareness Month. Maine is home to over 29,000 individuals living with Alzheimer’s and 51,000 unpaid caregivers.
Early signs of Alzheimer's disease are memory loss, difficulty with planning or problem-solving, trouble with familiar tasks, and confusion with time and place. Age is the biggest risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, but other factors can be reduced through healthy lifestyle choices.
You can choose to wear purple to raise awareness of Alzheimer's, engage by joining a local activity this month, and take action to improve your brain health. Learn more about Alzheimer's and dementia at the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
Learn more about Maine's State Respite Care Program, a reimbursement program for those caring for someone with Alzheimer's or related dementia.
Maine CITE has an archived webinar, Assistive Technology for Dementia, that discusses low-tech and high-tech assistive technology devices to promote safety and independence for people with dementia.
